Technology for Remote Teaching: Library Resources

This guide offers options for synchronous (live) and asynchronous (recorded or self-paced) teaching as well as third party content that can be used as a substitute/addition to online teaching in the event of a law school closure or class cancellation.

Library Services

Services provided during campus access restrictions:

  • Virtual Research & Reference consultations
    • Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you are working on a seminar paper, conducting research for a faculty member, conducting research for an externship, or generally have a research question with which you need help.  We will work with you via email, phone, or Zoom videoconference as you prefer. 
  • Interlibrary Loan Requests
    • Will try to fill requests electronically although many libraries have stopped providing materials at this time so we may not be able to fulfill all requests
  • Existing due dates for physical materials currently checked out of the library will be extended

 

Services NOT provided during campus access restrictions:

  • Checkout of print materials from the library
  • Interlibrary loan of print materials not otherwise available electronically

West Academic Assessment - expires June 1, 2020

West Academic Assessment "includes over 5,000 customizable, formative multiple-choice self-assessment questions that are:

  • Faculty-authored and classroom-tested
  • Keyed to West Academic Publishing and Foundation Press casebooks, or available by subject to work with any casebook
  • Easy to use, with helpful explanations from the Hornbook Series®
  • Available at the chapter/topic level for use during the semester, with subject area review questions for end of semester use

Additional resources will further provide students with meaningful feedback, including:

  • 400+ Grammar and Usage and Legal Citation questions, along with detailed explanations of correct and incorrect answers
  • Short answer and essay questions, with sample answers and expert commentary, in 1L and select upper-level subjects"

Access for Faculty:

  • Create or sign in to an account at http://eproducts.westacademic.com/ using a law.villanova.edu email address
  • Under "materials provided by my school" click on the Q to Add a Quiz
  • Select a subject to add to your bookshelf and then click Next
  • From your bookshelf, open, view and activate a quiz

Wolters Kluwer Online Study Aid Library - expires June 30th

Looking for Examples & Explanations, Glannon Guides or Emanuels? These series and much more, including videos and audio, are available on Wolters Kluwer Online Study Aid Library.  Available through June 30, 2020.

These study aids are available at any time, day or night through the end of May, and the service allows for unlimited simultaneous users.  Follow the steps below to set up access to the virtual library:

  • Go to https://ebooks.aspenlaw.com/librarycard/login
  • Select your institution from the dropdown
  • For library card number: enter the first part of your law school email address/MyNova Login AND the number 1 (example: studentname@law.villanova.edu, your library card number would be studentname1) 
  • Register for a personal account to be able to highlight, take notes and use bookmarks

On the Bookshelf page, click Filter By to find books for a course area. Looking for an Examples & Explanations or Glannon Guide? Use Filter By Series.

After initiating an ebook download online, you may use the iPublishCentral Reader app to read an ebook. Download the app from the link on the personal account login page.
