Madison Lesgart, author of the book Beside the Nine: The Supreme Court Through the Eyes of Its Law Clerks joined us for our author chat to discuss her book. Madison talked about her process of reaching out to hundreds of former Supreme Court clerks and the interviews she was able to get, both on and off the record. She was able to confirm some stories about playing basketball on the "highest court in the land" and how the different justices treated their clerks. She spoke of the difficulty in putting together a book like this, making hundreds of phone calls, not getting discouraged by the number of people who didn't respond to her. In the end she considered the process worthwhile and rewarding.
