First Day Assignments

First Day Assignments are listed for students two weeks before the start of the semester. Please use the link below to submit any first day assignment or required reading for your courses.

Class Periods

Class Periods:  A regular class period is 60 minutes. If you teach a double class, you may offer a 10 minute mid-class break at your discretion. It is important that you provide your students with the full amount of instructional time. Frequent or regular early class dismissal is not allowed.

Syllabus Template

A syllabus is required in all classes.  The syllabus template that our Academic Success Task Force has developed is below.  Take note in particular of the “Course Goals and Objectives.”  As a community we believe that by defining our individual course goals, students gain a better understanding of the learning objectives for each course.  The American Bar Association has also updated our accreditation standards to include language requiring the defining of student learning outcomes.  More on Learning Outcomes is available under the Academic Policies tab.

Class List & Seating Charts

Class Lists & Seating Charts

In advance of your first-class log into NOVASIS to access a list of the students registered for your course. You may print a roster with photos by clicking on the 'enrollment' number listed and use this list as a preliminary roster.  Students are permitted to add or drop courses before the end of the first week of class in each semester. After the Drop/Add Period, log back into NOVASIS for a revised class list that will reflect any changes. We ask that you check the list with your class. If any student’s name does not appear, he or she should be instructed by you to contact the Registrar’s Office.

Photo Seating Charts

Class list with images can be accessed and printed easily. Simply visit the Faculty Dashboard in My Nova
and click on “Class List with Photo”.

If you would like to obtain a photo seating chart for your classes, please follow the process outlined below:

  1. Pick up a seating chart template from the faculty admin office in Room 260.
  2. Have your students put their full name and user id on the seating chart. Please remind them to print the information clearly so that it is legible.
  3. Write your name and your class name on the chart. This is very important! The creation of your seating chart will be delayed if this information is omitted.
  4. Scan to email or drop off (Tech Zone) the completed template to Michael Hayden.

A digital representation of the chart will then be created and emailed to you with names and photos and a print copy will be available for pick up in the Tech Zone of the Law Library.
