The Congressional Globe, or the Globe, is the record of congressional debate from 1833-73. It was preceded by the Annals of Congress (1789 -1824) and the Register of Debates (1824-37), with which it overlaps in part. In 1851, the Globe started to contain “somewhat” verbatim transcripts of floor statements. It was followed by the Federal Register. Use the appropriate timeline to locate relevant text.
