Catherine Lanctot, in 'We are at War and You Should Not Bother the President': The Suffrage Pickets and Freedom of Speech During World War I, tells the Suffragist struggle for women's rights during the suppression of dissent during the First World War.  She shows how the subsequent legal battles joined the right to vote with freedom of speech.
