introduction

Bioethics, as a field of study, is concerned with ethical issues in medicine and other life sciences.  Such ethical issues may be of long standing, such as the ethics of conducting research on living human subjects, or the right to seek or refuse certain medical treatments.  New ethical concerns may emerge as advances are made in fields such as biotechnology, related to the possibilities such technology creates for scientific intervention in the natural development of existing life, or even in the artificial creation of new life-forms.  The study of "bioethics" will necessarily involve consideration of medicine, science, technology, law, politics, religion, ethics, and philosophy.  As a guide for Villanova Law School students, this guide will focus primarily on resources on Bioethics and the Law available through Villanova libraries, along with information freely available online.  Also featured are suggested resources to aid students in writing projects this field.
